Awake and Breathe
And then it's turn for this much referenced piece of mediocrity. I remember buying this from the Anttila sales as well, for a very low price. And now I'm no longer sure even about the mediocrity... Could this actually be even worse than S.O.A.P. and Emilia?
#1 If It Don't Fit 8
I love most of the lyrics, especially the very first A part: "Don't wear that shirt cos you know it drives me insane / I go for colours and you for plain, maybe? / Mirror mirror just tell him what you see / He's got an ego - can't you make it disappear?" Can't I so relate to that. There are some country influences here already.
#2 Jesse Hold on 8½
When I first saw this on Pepsi Chart, I thought "Oh, that's pretty okay a last single". When I learned it was actually the first single from their second album, I was awe-struck. But after buying this (still don't know why), I realised why this was chosen - nothing better was available. This album is definitely much weaker than their first (which I don't have (and I know I shouldn't)).
#3 I Shall Be There 8
In the review for The Tuesday's I already promised this. The beginning is very interesting, with some strange instruments and language that sounds like French. The D part has more of that and is therefore my favourite part.
#4 Jump Down 9
Again good lyrics: "You ran away with my spoon [...] I jumped over the moon" Does this imply Adele is a cow? Irish sounds and a modulation set this apart from the rest, though I'm not a big fan of one of those things :p
#5 Someday 7
"I tell you something: life is a mystery" What deep philosophy. Too bad you weren't gonna get there someday after releasing this joyless album.
#6 Leaves 4½
This is a horror.
#7 Shy One 5½
Plain one.
#8 Red Indian Girl 6
I've never undestood what the lyricist had in mind when writing this... And the composer not much better...
#9 It Was Our Day 6½
They are probably referring to the day they released C'est la vie, their only really good single...
#10 Superman 6½
Let's get funky... or let's not. I just noticed that since track 6, the scores have been gradually rising.
#11 Are You a Ghost? 7
It seems that there's not much else to tackle than the titles here, because now I'd like to ask the singer the aforementioned question. Or maybe rather "Are you a toast?". And I still wonder why no one made a parody called Yucky out of Britney's Lucky - I mean Monkey. It played in my head for a long time today. Unlike anything from this album will. Maybe it'll be I Was Thinking of You once more...
#12 In the Fields Where Once We Did Lay 6
If this was the other option, you probably should've remained in those fields, because this "winding road" only took you to oblivion. I seem to be in a moralizing mood today. Just like I always say to Karen Carpenter: "Stupid woman, don't you know you're going to die soon?"
