Hit for 6ix
Expectations for the 6th album were high after the brilliant Diet and the FT Kkythiramjôn that went on to become my favourite of all her songs. In the end, they weren't let down, even though there are lots of ballads. Very difficult to grade, this one. On the cover, she gives an all-new meaning to the concept of wet-look. Inside, there are nice smiling pictures.
#1 Mos 10
A very good way to begin an album, just like Line on Koyote's 6th. In fact, I didn't remeber I liked this this much, wow.
#2 Kkythiramjôn 10
One of the songs that just can't be praised enough. The epitome of Korean music, simply. Would've also made an excellent opening track. Can't I give an 11? I still remember when I first saw her perform this on some Korean music show that HRL's father had taped her. During the chorus, she clapped the microphone causing funny disturbances in the sound, but at least she once again proved her live exceptional live singing skills.
#3 Hit Me 9½
Not as powerful as the two before but not weak in any way. If this had been a FT, there should've been self-slapping moves each time she says "hit me!".
#4 Phungsôngwa Khôphylling 10
At first I deemed this not melodic enough but it seems my thoughts have changed. The intro is just so very good, even though it's ripped from a well-known 90's hit.
#5 Happy Birthday (Celebrate Tonight) 8
Koyote's song with the same name is better but you still have to hear both each birthday. In some review this was called "the diva's most sincere gift to her loyal fans". Why thank you, that's very nice.
#6 Tonthelmama 10
I don't really get it why some titles can be written in straight English while others have to be koreanised. For example this requires some imagination to understand it tries to say "Don't tell mama". I must be in an especially jolly mood as I'd really like to give this a 10 as well. There goes, I can always tune it down when needed.
#7 Namzayi Juhok 5
Goodbye aceness, welcome horror. Such a sudden shock after all the good stuff. "The temptation of men"? At least I'm not too tempted by this. Do I really have to listen to all of this? Must be one of her very worst recordings, if not the worst.
#8 Stop It 6
At some point, this was KHJ's most listened song on Last.fm but that must've been because the album was new at that time and the Korean-titled songs' listenings are spread due to different romanisations. How can an album be this unbalanced? Well, her first one is the same.
#9 Kynome Kjôlhonsik 6½
Very basic ballad. "Kjôlhonsik" means 'wedding', a point for me.
#10 Zhôtnal 6
Booh.
#11 Zasinôpsnyn Ipjôl 6½
Sleepy.
#12 Not Alone 7
The best ballad.
#13 The Ring Around My Balloon 9½
And the wakeup call. Her English pronunciation isn't too bad, the biggest problem are, as usual, the lyrics that just can't be sung properly. Not to say anything about the grammar. My favourite part is "Don't call me sissy", although she probably tries to mean something completely else...
#14 Kkythiramjôn 10
I like the original version better. This one's softer.
