I Love Soul
It's not hard to understand my appalment at my favourite diva for releasing such a stinky pile of poo. In time, I've been able to find a good side as well: at least there's not getting any lower than this. If I wasn't a fan and a collector, I wouldn't have any reason whatsoever to keep this on my shelf. I so DON'T love soul. Let me quote the YA product description:
Kim Hyun Jung's latest musical triumph!
On her previous two albums, the star limited her song genre to dance music only and all her fans will be full of joy that she has expanded her spectrum this time. Kim's new offerings include various kinds of combinations between R&B, hip hop, jazz, swing and gospel plus other inspiring sounds. Highlighting two opposing themes, namely, excitement and calmness, vol.7 was produced by Kim herself. Get totally absorbed by your music idol's most ambitious release to date.
And then my customer review:
Kim Hyun Jung's musical disaster
Uhm, what on Earth has she done? For the past six albums, she's been my top favourite Korean artist but this one turned out to be a real disappointment, even though I was forewarned by the product description... If you thought Wild Beauty (album #4) was experimental, think again. It at least had Nwa and three of KHJ's best ballads (Ttônan Nô, Naekeroyi Zhotê and White Color) - this one in turn has no dance at all and not even any pure ballads. Speaking of the product description, I really must disagree with it, because it really can't be said that in KHJ's two previous albums she would've concentrated solely on dance (not that I'd mind if she had), because first of all, on Hit for 6ix (#6), half of the tracks are ballads, and on Diet there's even more variety, to the point of making the album outright eclectic. On the positive side, some of my friends who have previously pretty fiercely opposed Korean music changed their opinions after hearing this album! So I guess this kind of stuff must be good in some kind of a context but certainly not mine. Frankly, I'm not too surprised not having seen this on any charts lately... Let's hope Hyunjung will come back to her senses in time for her eight effort...
Nuff said.
#1 Thêjang Enôzi 6
The only redeeming features are the charming "baby I lop you" and the title that means 'solar energy'.
#2 Like a Virgin 5
Rather horrible.
#3 Zungtok 5½
Kim Jong Kook has done 'addiction' a lot better. Do I really have to listen to all of these? "Kiva ja jatsahtava" was never my thing.
#4 Don't You Follow Me 7½
At least some light in the darkness. Not my type but somehow agreeable.
#5 NO.NO.NO 5
My thoughts exactly.
#6 2nd Round 6
Something this pathetic excuse for an album is not going to get. "Pii pappi pappi paa"... Even worse than Kyröskooppi's Sunnuntaisin.
#7 B Hjông Namza 8½
Initially, this was just as horrible as all the rest but it has sneakily grown onto me. Tino likes it even more than me, saying it "massages his brain". At least you can do a funny chicken dance to this. The video is really interesting with KHJ as a fly who stings the despicable guy. Should see it again.
#8 Jônsyp (Coma...) 5½
There aren't even proper ballads! The subtitle is very fitting considering the state of mind this has put me in.
#9 Acoustic Love 5
The title is interesting but that's it. If this is what acoustic love sounds like, I'd rather have mine electronic.
#10 Kil (Kytêro Onynkil) 6
My mind must be getting numb as these aren't as offensive as before.
#11 Outro 6½
I don't really understand the point of full-length introes and outroes. Plus that the outro isn't the last track...
#12 B Hjông Namza (MR)
"MR" apparently means 'instrumental'.
