In Lust We Trust
I've listened to this criminally little, especially compared to the wide play acquired by the first album.
#1 Beauty Is the Beast 9
Now just tell me why they chose to begin the album with a song clearly similar to the one they began their first one with? There's the same 70's or whatever kind of influence as well as the melody. The lyrics are quite thoughtful and relatable: "Beauty is the beast, you'd better believe it / You're wasting your life trying to achieve it".
#2 Father of a Son 8
This song has a clear message but otherwise I'm quite sure I wouldn't have chosen this as the second single. I have so little music that actually tries to say something, which makes those few cases the more interesting. "I may be gay but I'll tell you straight away / I'll become a better father than any of you anyway" might quite well be true and it's fun how they say it so in a song.
#3 Tell Me This Night Is Over 7
Neither this would have ended up as a single if they'd have asked me. It's not bad, just less interesting than some other tracks. This deals with issues of self-image and aging, which are quite interesting subjects as well. The choir towards the end adds power but also draggingness, making you wait for this song to be over.
#4 Calleth You, Cometh I 10
Well at least about the first single I agree with the producers whoevers make the choices. Already the title itself is quite unique. There's an overall uplifting atmosphere. To the lyrics I haven't paid much attention but maybe they aren't the main point in this one.
#5 A Virgin Like You 9½
This would most probably have been my second single choice. It's like they used instruments of all their own because from every song you can hear straight away which band they belong to.
#6 Interlude
A funny idea to include a kind of a "midtro" in the middle of the album. Not something I'd do but not the worst of ideas anyway.
#7 Tired of Being an Object? 9½
This is so totally like the stuff on their first album. Again I can well relate to the lyrics :] To both sides of it (being and not being one, that is). The lyrics are quite wild, with projections of several internal organs onto dancefloors and magazines, but the best line is without doubt "Maybe sometimes getting fucked can be amusing". And in this case I don't presume I'm hearing it wrong...
#8 Disease 8
This is already morally questionable, talking about conscientiously getting infected with a fatal affliction (can't we all guess which one...).
#9 Vendelay 7
I was quite unable to make any notes of this as I got an urgent assignment. I guess I want another listening anyway.
#10 2000 Light-Years of Darkness 9
This is one of my favourites. After three minutes it first seems to be ending but then it revives and goes on to be the longest of them all.
#11 The Most Radical Thing to Do 8
Different kind of a song about love, once again I like the lyrics.
