Something in the Hospital (Passion)
Because I cunningly forgot home the fifth album I started reviewing yesterday, I had to move on to this one. Generally lauded as their all-time best effort, I've somehow never agreed, although their by far best song can be found here. Plus the album title is one of the best I know. And of course in the booklet Jongmin is at his cutest, playing doctors and nurses with Shinji, Goo and the dog. I think I've got to quote once more the funny and descriptive YA reviewer: "Their first album was very discoy, but good. I squealed with joy over the second one. The 3ed one was so damned good I nearly crashed my car cause I forgot where I was^^ I'm so excited in anticipation for their next CD, I could just shed my skin & grow a tail^o^"
#1 Rendez-vous 8½
Quite basic, apparently forgettable because I never seem to remember this. But not bad, no.
#2 Zazonsim 9
One of their best happy tracks (it seems I've finally given up on trying to use the complicatedly functioning English terms "majors" and "minors"...). No match for Together and Mannam, though.
#3 Passion 9
This was the first FT off this album and to my knowledge, their second biggest hit after the anthemic breakthrough that was Sunzông. Never one of my favourites, though. It was funny how in the YA description for the sixth album, this song is referred to as "Fashion".
#4 Dear My... 6½
A ballad that begins so uninspiringly that it can't possibly be any good. Well, that's right it isn't. The only thing I remember from this is the line "Singing my heart to you".
#5 Pharan 10
This can't be praised enough, so I won't even try. Easily my biggest hit of year 2003. Too bad back there was yet no Audioscrobbler to record all the listening this got... Too bad the video isn't one of their best, with all the "disturbance". The dancing's cool, though.
#6 Pjônsim 8½
This is a good demonstration that I really haven't listened to this album as a whole nearly as much as the fourth and fifth ones, since this is quite a good song that I didn't remember at all. Some of the reasons for the few listenings could be the two Passions - nothing compared to the three Sunzôngs of album 1, of course.
#7 Blue 9½
Quite clearly my number two from this album. At some point I was a bit confused because "pharan" may also mean 'blue'. Or does it have to be 'pharanyn'? This is one of the advanced things our Kim teacher still hasn't wanted to explain to us. Well, maybe this year.
#8 Jaksok 6½
Why all songs called Jaksok are so boring? Maybe promises aren't usually that exciting?
#9 Happy Birthday 8½
This is fun. A definite staple of each birthday party. Better than KHJ's one with the same title but you have to listen to that one as well.
#10 Jôlzông 9
Once again a feature track buried deep in the album. Just like is the case with KHJ, the third album was the most successful and had three FTs taken off it. But wait, didn't Koyote's fourth have three as well? Oh yes, it did. This was another of their "höpsöttely"-videos, from which I mostly remember Shinji rubbing her eyes and Jongmin hitting on Goo and turning a half-somersault.
#11 Passion 9
Version 2. Don't remember what was the difference to v.1, though. After all, it seems that this CD was better than I remembered.
