Spin
So far the only non- Heidi Kyrö artist I've had the chance to experience live, that fact must bring something extra to the music itself. The album is a solid wholeness with clever lyrics, only brought down by tracks that are way too long for the amount of ideas they contain.
#1 Strange Relationship 10
I've clearly had too little this kind of music lately, this sounds so terribly good right now. The lyrics sound very good (especially "I keep pushing and you keep holding on") and the arrangement is nicely "hanging" with the car sounds and all.
#2 Insatiable 9½
The song with the almost unpronounceable title features lots of Darren's trademark high-pitched singing and a lingering light-latin atmosphere.
#3 Heart Attack 8
Though this isn't one of my favourites, I remember the heart theme from the concert quite clearly indeed. The song is quite boring, with only one very good point, the one where is the song's title.
#4 I Miss You 7½
The title says it all. I understand the choice of this as a single from the Savage Garden point of view but not really otherwise.
#5 Creepin' Up on You 8½
Well named, really describes its content. I remember this as the opening of the concert.
#6 Dirty 9
Clear link in the chain of the old stuff, though nothing on this album actually couldn't have been on either of the SG albums. Except maybe for the very strange ending...
#7 Crush (1980 Me) 9½
Though quite strange, this was my favourite from the first hearing. I Want You -influences, very mobile, as a certain SunDew reviewer would say. But someone please explain me the title... Surely he doesn't have a crush on his old self? But is this still my favourite or should I change to Strange Relationship instead?
#8 Good Enough 7
More reminiscing about the old times. The chorus is a bit of a let-down, but it's okay. No, it's not. It gets worse the longer it goes on, even if it surprisingly does modulate. Be wise and end now or I'll drop the score once more...
#9 I Can't Ever Get Enough of You 8
Wow, I've truly become quite good at recognising songs and influences, even less familiar ones. This one has something in common with my favourite song from The Beatles (not otherwise any favourites of mine), Here Comes the Sun.
#10 Like It Or Not 6½
One more track beginning with "uh uh yea yea". It's beginning to sound comic already. Also the 2½th ballad in a row. This one's too long as well. There are only two tracks on the album that are distinctively shorter than 5 minutes.
#11 What You Like 9
I like the message of this: "Please tell me what you like, if that feels nice / Give me a sign, if you love it I can do it again / We've got the rest of our life to get it right". Or is it "the rest of the night"? That would be so much worse. And then I go and type "yell me what you like"... :] Quite good but once again a vainly prolonged ending takes out some of the score.
#12 Spin 9½
"Hey hey ho ho" instead of "uh uh yea yea", I don't know if I'd call the progress. Another lyrics that I can well relate to, telling about the effect the right music can have on you. This seems to be the longest track, I'm fearing the worst... No, it wasn't! I probably shouldn't trust this CD player at all, as now it won't even let me to the last track... Could there really be an empty space of two minutes? No no, this IS the last track, this IS Spin! Oh my.
