Step One
If I had dim memories about Steptacular, this should be even more distant. But on the other hand, I listened to this so very much when this was new...
#1 Steptro
One of the few intros I tolerate. Probably because of the song it leads to.
#2 Last Thing on My Mind 10
"Can't I give an 11? This is undoubtedly the best cover ever. The Bananarama original is so weak but in this one all its potential is unleashed. Certainly it also has quite a meaning as their first non-5,6,7,8 single :] This is probably the most important song of all songs to me."
#3 5, 6, 7, 8 8
"Oh good old 5,6,7,8... A funny exception on the album, being honest to their roots. Or should I say "root" as there's only this one of this kind?" Funny to think this is where it all began...
#4 One for Sorrow 10
"The first song I ever heard from Steps, finally recovering from overuse during the old times. Another marvellous choreography and a melody that is more ABBA than ABBA themselves. This is what all music should be like."
#5 Heartbeat 8
"A sympathetic though watered song with a comic video, only remarkable for being Tragedy's companion."
#6 This Heart Will Love Again 9½
I've always preferred this to Heartbeat. The chorus is breath-taking - and I mean when you try to sing all of it. Didn't do so well in the OGAE Song Contest but then again it wasn't the right place for it.
#7 Experienced 6
It always begins equally surprisingly. Oh the lyrics... This is a surefire lyric misfire classic.
#8 Too Weak to Resist 7
Oh I always remember the performance from Steps the Video with Faye doing the Veera from the beach scene of MIP...
#9 Better Best Forgotten 9
"They themselves named this as one of their least favourites, though it was a great success. In the beginning I didn't quite get it because of the controversialities in the chords but it grew onto me and the choreography is one of my favourites."
#10 Back to You 9
Such a nice Janet Jackson rip-off. Almost as good as the one she cunningly made out of my good old Caliente.
#11 Love U More 8
The other cover of the album, one I never used to understand. My favourite details are the cumulative interjections at the end of the chorus. I guess I should finally find out whose the original is.
#12 Stay With Me 6½
Oh right, we're already at the end of the album.
