Tähtikaaren taa
For many acts its their first album that's the best one. That's the case for Aika(kone) as well. Even this single album (pun intended) would probably have set them as my favourite Finnish band.
#1 Intro
This must be the only intro that I feel really suitable. Having heard this, I found it hard to listen to Odota without this. Very atmospheric.
#2 Odota 10
Wonderful kaihea dance song telling about running into a bear. Let's hope the bear was not like shot in the ass. Probably my favourite of all of their songs, linking strongly to Ihobit (Biohit) where it played practically every day during my work practice there.
#3 Ei et saa 9
I just love these plastic sounds of their early works. How did they put it themselves, "chirpy techno dance"? The lyrics are beyond comprehension, like usual for them.
#4 Alla vaahterapuun 8½
Their biggest hit, never one for me, though lately I've began to understand it. Contains also a hidden Arla advert: "Mansikalle Muu maistuu". Except that I don't remember if there ever was a strawberry-
flavoured variant... Why oh why didn't I keep a Muu container as a souvenir?
#5 Taas saan lentää 9
One of the funniest höpsöttelyes, like a children's show in Paris on overspeed. The vocals even have some Ankkaräppi influences.
#6 Matkustanut oon 8
Good chords in the chorus, not much else.
#7 Tähtikaaren taa 10
Was this really their first single? I never heard this before buying the album. A very mobile tune with the feeling of actually being launched into space.
#8 Rakkauslaulu 9
This is the funniest track! Manic fast-paced arrangement, mindless lyrics and careless-sounding vocals, none of the elements actually fittting in with each other. This must be something of my equivalent of Kana... :]
Reminds me of some bad track of mine... oh yes, Synergetic Disillusion.
#9 Pikkulintu 6
Oh no, not this one. Alex's lazy singing makes this even more horrible. The lyrics are sooo tacky and they Disney-influenced music isn't much better. Is he talking about a bird or a person? That doesn't become clear at all. Probably the meaning was to mean both and that way be quite philosophical, but let me tell you, you failed badly. The baroque whatever background inserts are pretty comic.
#10 Enemmän 9½
I can't explain this one too well, it just works.
#11 Viikonloppu jokainen 9½
This has a strong connection to last Midsummer when I listened to this all the time. Oh no, don't remind me about Midsummer, it's only two weeks away... Very bubbly, especially the "pappaadalaadilaadia" part. The Spanish D part sounds funny, almost Finnish, thought of course now I understand what they're saying.
#12 Oikotie sydämeen 9
Story about cheating in a relationship that, surprisingly for Aikakone, is actually quite followable. There are some weird chords in the chorus that I've now become used to.
#13 Taas saan lentää (mix) 6
Horribly boring remix that tempts me to ask a question in Finnish: "Mix?"
#14 Tähtikaaren taa (mix) 9
The best element, the explosion has been removed and the background changed into something out-of-tunish. Not half as horrible as the previous one, though. Some Spanish words that didn't exist in the original.
#15 Outro
