The Tuesdays
Impulsively bought in a sale vaguely remembering having once heard It's Up to You on MTV, and not a bad one for such.
#1 Too Late to Be Good 9½
Yeah, at six o'clockish at work it begins to be too late to be good... at anything. Except reviewing, maybe. We'll see. A bad song with this title would be perfect in the middle sections of a bad album :] Quite similar to their biggest (only) hit and not even much worse. The workplace is really the best place to review this CD as it's for some reason the place where I've listened to it the most and where it always associates to.
#2 It's Up to You 10
Even if I didn't already like this due to musical reasons, the personal meaning it ended up having would've done the trick. You see, I once (just once? (toim. huom.)) was in a situation where "it" actually was "up to" a certain someone, who naturally left "it" "up" and never hung his toothbrush (or anything else) next to mine. Oh well, so long so gone. This seems to have become quite a suggestive review... [Updated 030611]
#3 I'll Be Here 7½
Fresh variation to the common "I'll Be There", now she'll be "here" instead. Great. Though not half as great as B*Witched's "I Shall Be There". This must've been like the umpteenth B*Witched remark (that ordinal I learnt from a cartoon :] ), I didn't know they were so meaningful. Maybe I've got to revive - um, review them next. At least this time and this place demostrates that reviewing is much more interesting than Danish noun compounds... Did I say anything about the song itself? No? Oh, doesn't matter.
#4 Changing the Moods 9
It's so late that maybe I'll make this the last one for today. What could I say about this? Well, I kinda like it. And I like the title. I guess that's it.
#5 Take Me Home 7
So we're back in action. Here ended the most interesting part of the album. It seems that the night's sleep wore out yesterday's "fiume di parole" and I'm back to the brief. Could someone take me home from here as well? To slee-ee-eep... zzz...
#6 What Is Love 7½
Along the lines of the previous track, quite simple and not special in any way, just a little better. They should've watched ESC in 1985 and Vikki would've taught them what love is, that it's "beating a stranger and taking her jazz".
#7 I Was Thinking of You 9½
I didn't even realise how much I liked this annoying little bugger. I recall the long days of the summer two years ago, when this song held my brains in its tight love-hate -like grasp. The lyrics are just so simply effective, "I made love to him, I was thinking of you". How else could you put it in the first place? And additionally it's an award-winning demostration of the difference between the genders. For her, feelings are the most important part, and therefore the guy she's thinking of is the most important one; but for him it really is "no consolation", because the plain physical act is what upsets him the most, not so much the candlelight dinners. I have a bad feeling that this has the potential to become even more appropriate than it already is... Though even worse, it might also become less appropriate...
#8 I Wish It Was Yesterday 8½
In a way I hope this would be better, because I like the theme quite a lot.
#9 Wheels 8
She says she's a wheel but hopefully not a wheel of fortune. Then she (I'm always referring to them in singular (because when have you heard a band proclaim their affectionate feelings collectively? ("We love you, you're our babies"...))) proceeds to teach some basic physical laws, like that "wheels turn". Most probably so.
#10 Gone With the Wind 7½
This could be quite a beautiful ballad but there's something wrong with it. Maybe it's the notes straight from Unchained Melody in a much less glamorous context. And installing the well-known movie into the lyrics sounds awkward.
#11 When You're a Tuesday Girl 9
Yes, every good debut album should have at least one track featuring the bands name (mine doesn't! (but then again, I'm not a band)).
#12 Tuesday Afternoon 6
Now it's actually Thursday and not even afternoon yet. But then again, lately I've been reading about a certain Thursday girl, not about anyone called Tuesday.
